OVERVIEWA start-up rechargeable battery company that develops low-cost energy storage systems for the electric utility and renewable industries is seeking a Manufacturing Process Engineer that will play a significant and influential role in the growth of the company. The process engineer position will be responsible for determining and developing and improving operations to produce cells and batteries. The manufacturing processes must ensure quality, cost and efficiency requirements are met. This position troubleshoots problems with production and takes corrective action. The process engineer also researches the repair of machinery, the purchase of new equipment and tooling or upgrades to existing equipment. The ideal candidate will have an Associates or Bachelor s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering and requires a minimum of 3 years of hands on experience in a production environment or very relevant course work and initiative. Essential FunctionsEvaluate, implement and monitor processes and operating systems for the manufacture of cells and batteries. Monitor and improve the efficiency, output and safety of manufacturing processes through observations and measurements as well as by collecting and interpreting data from other technical and operating personnel. Work closely with other specialists (including scientists) to ensure proper quality assurance compliance and methods.Responsibility for ongoing performance of processes. Create/edit/maintain necessary documentation, including writing and updating work instructions and operating procedures. Equipment set-up and adjustment per procedures. Order and organize spare parts. Support the conversion of small-scale processes into commercially viable large-scale operations. Assess materials and their safety and environmental impact on the facilityBalance quality, productivity, cost, and safety to achieve positive results in all areas. Work to continuously improve in all areas using LEAN Manufacturing principles. Ability to recognize when maintenance help is needed, and interact effectively with Maintenance staff. Help manage departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provide regular progress reports to manager. Provide leadership through example and adherence to policies. Communicate issues and priorities to supervisor on a regular basis and to other management as requested. This role routinely interfaces with all levels of employees. Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Occasional extended evening and or weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
